To continue the long-lived tradition of presenting the most famous Lithuanian artists, Stasys Juškus Gallery will invite the art lovers to the opening of exhibition PAINTING IN RETROSPECT, displaying the paintings of Jonas Buracas, well-known Lithuanian artist, on 25 June 2008.
This is an anniversary exhibition as it aims at commemorating the 110th jubilee of Jonas Buracas. The painter has left us over 30 years ago. The exhibition displaying 38 paintings, selected from the collection of 1,215 art works owned by the painter’s son Antanas Buracas, will introduce to the audience only a small part of the heritage left by this famous artist. Mostly these will be the art works that are scarcely known yet, however, the motifs of some of the paintings might have been seen before. The artist Jonas Buracas was a person who has dedicated his life to art and exchanged family routine to his art mission. Unbelievably meticulous, hard-working, precisely producing each art work and respecting the motif in question - that's what he was. The painter was an unofficial teacher and inspiration of the entire movement of Lithuanian watercolourists of the second half of the 20th century, esp. those living in Kaunas City.
